Conradh Na Gaeilge News : Tick The irish Box in Census Ethnicity Question on March 27th
Posted by oifig on 2011/3/25 12:25:37 (2686 reads)

A chairde

On 27 March, you have your chance to show exactly how proud you are of your Irish roots! We're encouraging 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Irish to register their Irish ethnicity in the upcoming Census.

Led by the Federation of Irish Societies - the representative body of the Irish community in Britain - this campaign is all about celebrating Irishness and ensuring that the Census records an accurate count of the number of Irish peo...ple living in England and Wales.

Ten years ago in the last Census, there was an undercount of the Irish in Britain. Getting the figures right makes a difference for the whole community. We need your help to do this.

Governments allocate resources based on need. Registering your Irish ethnicity in the Census will in turn raise the profile of these issues and push them higher up the agenda.

We're calling on you to help spread the message: children and descendents of Irish-born migrants are just as entitled to tick the Irish ethnicity box as those who were born in Ireland.

For more information about the campaign

www.howirishareyou.org

In Scotland , the Ethnicity question is Question #15 and there is a specific irish box against which you can tick if you have irish heritage.
Please note , this question is about Ethnic background , you can specify your Nationality in a separate question.

Conradh Na Gaeilge News : Go raibh maith agat go Bunscoil Naomh Clár
Posted by oifig on 2011/3/24 12:38:50 (2682 reads)

Rinne muid dearmad a rá ár míle buíochas do Eileen Duffy agus achan duine ag bunscoil Naomh Clár i Drumchapel fá choinne an fáilte mór a chuir siad roimh mise (Evin) agus Paddy Callaghan (Comhaltas) & Danny Boyle (Harps Community Project) , Dé Aoine seo cáite, nuair a chuamar ann chun blás cultúr na hÉireann a thabhairt dóibh.

Bhí na páistí go léir iontach maith agus lán le fuinneamh.

Go raibh maith agaibh go léir!

A (belated) big thanks to Eileen Duffy and all at St Clare’s Primary for the great welcome they gave myself, Paddy & Danny last Friday when we went there to give them a taste of Irish culture for the week that was in it.

The kids were brilliant fun to be around and really well-behaved and attentive – even before they knew they were going to get some sweets and a sticker!
